Yoga is a wonderful way to keep fit and centered during pregnancy. Whether you are a seasoned yogi or new to the practice, prenatal yoga will help prepare your body for childbirth, as well as helping prepare you to embrace the birth experience that you are given. The prenatal yoga series is designed to meet the specific needs of women during all stages of pregnancy. Mothers-to-be will be encouraged, through the yoga practice, to experience:

  • awareness: tuning into, honoring and accepting your changing body,
  • the mind-body-baby bond,
  • the breath as a method of maintaining focus and calm through challenging poses,
  • trust in your intuition and courage to determine what feels right for you,
  • acceptance of the unknown and unexpected of pregnancy, childbirth and parenting.

Prenatal yoga helps to alleviate some of the physical discomforts of pregnancy and to reduce stress, while developing strength and flexibility. Prenatal yoga also provides the opportunity to connect into a supportive community of other pregnant women.

Be sure to consult your doctor before beginning any new exercise routine during pregnancy. Experienced yogis are especially encouraged to clear your mind of expectations based on your “regular” practice in order to be fully present in the experience of prenatal yoga. Modifications and variations will be offered to accommodate participants at differing stages of pregnancy.
